FIAT/IFTA World Conference 2019

TG4 the Irish National Language Public Service Broadcaster has digitised and made available online over 2,000 hours of programme archives.Archive awareness amongst the public is vital to ensure future proofing, preservation and funding.   How do we create that awareness? TG4 taken the following approaches: 

1. Molscéal #anláseo (#onthisday, #OTD) : Popularizing the archive beyond OTT platforms by offering curated content from the archive for a specific target audience on social media platforms.
   Curated content from the channels tv archives being created and delivered to the end users based on their interests. Nostalgia marketing used to engage with viewers that are not actively seeking archive material. Using native analytics , crowdtangle and surveys to inform editorial decisions on future curated content for the audience.
2. Bringing the archive to the public : Creating Public Events and a hands-on user experience Tob-Chartlann TG4 - Popup Archive Events in which TG4 Archive staff are on hand to guide users how to explore the Archive’s online collections. These pop-up events have been done in collaboration with The Irish Traditional Music Archive ( ITMA) and as stand alone TG4 events. To date they have taken place at established festivals and events where we would expect to meet our tv viewers who might not be aware of our online Archive offerings. 
3. Gems from the Archive - Talks / Lectures based on Archive content. The idea is to ask prominent people to trawl through our traditional music archives and to select their personal highlights. Their selections are then presented as entertainment events using curated clips , live music and chat.
